Hi I'm really hoping you can help me. I'm trying to find a breeder for a Lancashire heeler, and I don't know where to begin. I'd like to find a reputable responsible breeder. Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated.

I saw a top judge send his border collie round an agility course while standing beside the first obstacle. Just giving voice commands. Over, left, right, table, He used the command "go" ahead of the seesaw, a-frame. The dog knew how to get all the touch points. I've not seen anyone else with that skill. I certainly can't do it, except, for example, a sequence of jumps in a row. Any comments.

Thank you, as someone with a Dachshund mix that had grade 4 and had emergency surgery as she really had barely any feeling left, i am glad to have finally found some in dept information. The clinic we went to didn't have the time to explain a lot. They also told me she has no higher risk after her first disc rupture than any other dog but i guess that was wrong after hearing this lecture. Thank you for sharing this, i shared it with my dog physio therapist. Is there a place where i can see the resources and studies he used?

How young can you register with the local kennel club? And is it 15 months of age before they can start for agility competition?

They are the best breed of dog, hands down. They need a ton of attention and exercise / mental stimulation though so it's great to see responsible breeders vetting potential owners. There's nothing more destructive than a bored, understimulated flattie.

My rescue sheltie and I have done beginners and she loves it…so much that she never stops barking when in her crate. I have covered it, put treats in the crate, use a snuffle mat, but when she hears the commotion while waiting her turn, she cant contain herself. I am not new to agility or shelties. I’ve had 12 shelties through the years, and 4 have had agility training. How can I quiet her down?

Rupert My old cavalry officer commanding had an Irish Setter called Rupert named after the dashing cavalier Prince Rupert and his regiment of Blue Coats. Nephew of Charles 1. Scourge of the Puritanical Ironsides. A great name for an aristocratic breed especially in a cavalry regiment.

Love this I’m working towards freestyle with Lindy we did lots of fun shows last year so many distractions and challenges I need to start reducing the treats now. Even the most cleverest of dogs can clam up, switch off when in an unfamiliar environment they also pick up on the handlers nerves as well 😂❤

My dog is incredibly fast, agile, and flexible. The only one that I'm worried about is me and my own stamina, trying to catch up to her I also worry about losing track of the course order, even though it's numbered.

Yes trust the type people who through selective breeding have created whole breeds of dogs who can barely breathe and live in pain because 'I want my dog to look...'. Fuck the kennel club, buy a mongrol.

I'm worried my standard poodle will start jumping our backyard fence if I teach her to jump over obstacles. She can already leap incredibly high.

He forgot to mention the (probably) the most important rule, that the dog MUST be at least a year old if your thinking about doing agility. It interferes with their growing joints. But the weave poles, A frame, see-saw and teeter should be fine

very informative, Not sure why but I could not see the video clips that were being referred too . Anyway my experience with IVDD is that I have had two daxies who suffered IVDD. One at age 9 . He was referred for an MRI immediately and surgery next day, which was sucessful so much so that he is still going stong today at age 17. His sister suffered the same at age 14, in this case we choose not to operate, as in my opinion she was too old, so she was rested for 7 weeks, under the vets care, with medication. She walked again. And even made it to her first hydro session, But sadly died soon after from a cardiac arrest.

Could it be something as simple as calcium deficiency or low in vitamins & minerals. Then because the dogs are lacking in those vitamins and minerals the dog’s body eat at the spine first. Causing that rubbing/hardening. Could be a thought? I’d love to hear your thoughts and opinions. Thank you.

Good stuff! We just got a German Shephard puppy that seems to love to go in and out of places. With my past experience as an engineer, I would like to design some obstacles. I do have a suggestion though. For the "jumping" apparatuses, instead of using something that a bar has to sit on, why not use magnets at the ends of the poles and have a metal strip on the uprights? That way a dog can land straight down on the bar and it will still fall... also, you can adjust the height by much smaller increments if needed. something to think about. Let me know if you want me to design one.

Great tip we were given when doing agility is to give a joint supplement to prevent joint damage, we use Antinol, and mine increased his speed!

Taking my mixed breed to a qualifier for scrufts (an event and crufts for mixed breeds) next Sunday is there anything I should know?
